mike1Sergeant Michael J. Coker (retired) is a motivational speaker in the field of Family Violence Investigations and Leadership.

Michael served as a police officer for 20 years in the Portsmouth, Virginia Police Department.  During his tenure, he held several supervisory assignments, including: Field Training Officer, Uniform Patrol Supervisor, Homicide and Robbery Squad Commander,  Domestic Violence/Sex Crimes Supervisor, Robbery Task Force Commander, Shift Commander and Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. Michael is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Leadership Course at Pamplin College in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Sergeant Coker has an extensive background as an investigator, and places strong emphasis on case management, victim rights, interrogation and courtroom presentations. Sergeant Coker has investigated over 1,000 domestic violence cases. Mike is a court-certified expert in the field of family violence and has lectured throughout the United States in the theories and dynamics of family violence.
